Obituary for Michele Ann Walker

Michele Ann Walker
Sunrise September 29, 1970 – Sunset April 15, 2015

Michele, age 44, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday April 15, 2015, suddenly at home. Michele was born on September 29, 1970 in Brooklyn, NY to Rev. Richard L. Walker, Jr. and Rosalee E. Walker. She was affectionately known as Shelly to her family and friends.

Michele was a happy person, always with a beautiful smile, unless you spelled her name with 2 ‘Ls’. Then that smile would quickly turn into a “You’re in trouble” look. Michele loved watching funny videos on the web and watching sports and she was a die-hard Eagles fan. She was very active in high school and college and she was an advocate for change where ever needed; at home, in church or in government. Michele was a gifted singer, as was her mother Rosalee. She sang at her high school graduation, in the church choir, in college while touring with the Fruit of the Spirit and slipped into karaoke. Michele loved to play board games and made game nights very lively. She also enjoyed listening to music, dancing and hanging out with her birthday club and recreation club.

Michele served on the Executive Board of the Spirit of Life GLM (God Loves Me) Ministries, Inc. Michele has been employed by the Christina School District since November 2004 as a bus aide and she was very instrumental in helping start the UAW at her job. She was on the negotiations committee and took her role very seriously.

Michele was pre-deceased by her mother, Rosalee E. Walker. Left to cherish Michele’s memory is her father, Rev. Richard L. Walker, Jr. of Newark, De.; two sisters, Monica Fort [Jay] of Newport, De. and Cheryl Walker of Newark, De.; one niece, Leah Walker of New Castle, De.; two nephews, Jerry R. Fort of Newport, De and Brandon “Rufus” Fort of Santa Barbara, Ca; one great-niece, Mikayla Fort of Wilmington, De; one great-nephew, Ethan Walker of New Castle, De.; her best friend LaBrenda Hardy of Anderson, In.; a God-sister, Heather Brison of Newark, De. and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Visitations will be Friday, April 24 at Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home from 6PM to 8PM and then Saturday, April 25 at New Community Church,116 W. 41st St. Wilmington, DE from 8AM to 10AM where services will begin at 10AM. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate contributions to the Wilmington chapter of the American Diabetes Association, 100 West 10th Street, Suite 1002 Wilmington, Delaware, 19801 or http://www.diabetes.org/in-my-community/local-offices/wilmington-delaware/
