Obituary for Mary "Pat" Grissom

Mary "Pat"  Grissom
Mary Patricia “Nana” Grissom, age 80, of Wilmington, Delaware, died peacefully at Season’s Hospice on Sunday, June 28, 2015.

Born December 24, 1934 in Wilmington, Delaware, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Steffie Powalski. In addition to being a homemaker, Nana worked at AIlied Kid as an office secretary for nearly 20 years and was also employed with Professional Ambulance for several years. Nana greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and summers were always extra special as they were spent by the pool. She was an exceptional cook and will always be remembered for having something delicious to eat including her “Nana Specials”, famous spaghetti sauce and meatballs and homemade Orange Aid. Sugar was her secret ingredient in everything she made. The word “no” was never an option when it came to Nana feeding you. She will also be remembered for her witty personality that would make anyone instantly fall in love with her.

She was predeceased by her sons Timothy Grissom and George Grissom.

Nana is survived by her husband of 59 years whom she lovingly referred to as “her man”, George Grissom. The couple met when they were just 15 years old and were married on January 14, 1956. She is also survived by her daughter, Patricia Sutton of New Castle, grandchildren Greg Grissom, Brian Grissom, Lauren Grissom-Taylor, Holly Lott, and Christina Sutton, 6 great-grandchildren and her brother Joseph J. Powalski Jr..

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, July 6th at 11:00am at St. Matthew’s Church, 901 East Newport Pike, Wilmington where visitation will begin at 10:00am. Burial will be private.
