Arthur B. Callahan

Wilmington - With sadness we announce the passing of Arthur Bernard Callahan, age 70, on Friday, December 28, 2018.

Art was the 2nd child born to his now deceased parents Arthur and Phoebe. His birth was preceded by that of his sister Helen then followed in short order by his 5 brothers; Francis (deceased), George (Carolyn- deceased), Michael, James ( Eileen) and Joseph (Robin). To 15 nieces & nephews he was Uncle Art but to Chris, Pop Pop.

Art was one of a kind. From his school days at St. Charles Seminary till his end his joy of learning and striving to make those around him comfortable with his companionship and quick wit was constant.

He will be gratefully remembered by all the musicians and their fans to whom he afforded a venue for their talents at the Barn Door Restaurant which Art managed then later owned. There his patrons could always enjoy good conversation, better jokes and even better Art made soups.

Art said many times that when he finally moved on there was to be no service whatsoever, but we don't think he would mind if some of us got together to raise a glass in memory of our dear departed friend.

We plan on doing that very thing on Wednesday, January 16th at 4 pm at the Dead President Restaurant, 618 N Union Street, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Art's memory can be made to the Sunday Breakfast Mission.
