Winvert Jarrell

d. March 6, 2020

Winvert J Jarrell, of Avondale, PA formerly of Lewes, DE, age 89, passed away in his sleep on Friday March 6th. He was a proud Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Win worked for 30 years for the Chrysler Corporation in Security rising to Sergeant in the Fire Department. He was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. Being out on the water was a favorite pastime. He was also active with the Newark Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Newark Elks Lodge rising through the chairs to Loyal Knight. While living in Millville DE he served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

His greatest passion though and his pride and joy was his garden. Every summer wherever he lived you could find him out in his yard planting, weeding and picking everything from asparagus to zucchini. If you stopped by for a visit it was assured, you would be leaving with a basket of fresh produce.

He is survived by his wife Mary Jarrell; his daughter Valorie Jarrell; his granddaughter Katharine Moshaver; his stepdaughter Elaine Sandelier; his stepson Frank Madonna (Jen) and their children Kristi Madonna, Anthony Madonna, Rob Sandelier, Mike Sandelier & Monica Sandelier plus 6 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his eight siblings Gertrude Frazier, Sally Read, Emma Gooden, William Jarrell, Pauline Monosmith, Al Jarrell, Ralph Jarrell and Mary Ann Lambertson.

A visitation will be held from 10 AM to 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. Dupont Hwy, New Castle, DE 19720, where an Elks service will begin at 10:45 am. Following the Elks ceremony, the funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Win’s memory can be made to Bayada Hospice, 1400 North Providence Road, Suite 200, Media, PA 19063.

Don't Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,

As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow -
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than

It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up
Whe he might have captured the victor's cup;
And he learned too late when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out -

The silver tint in the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It might be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit -
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.
