William (Bill) Cushman Farnum, aged 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Hockessin, DE on May 2, 2025. Born in 1934, in Urbana, IL to William Cushman Farnum and Louise Foote Farnum, Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary Lou, and four sons - John (Kathleen) of Newark, DE, Peter (Julianne) of Elgin, SC, David (Shelley) of Indianapolis, IN, and Andrew (Julie) of Newark, DE. He leaves behind nine grandchildren – Justin (Lindsey), Byron (Kathryn), William (Danielle), Danielle, Roan, Renee, Miranda, Sophie, and Charlotte, five great-grandchildren, and his loving caretaker, Angela Cooke.
Bill and Mary Lou were married on June 29, 1957, after meeting at the University of Wisconsin. Bill served proudly as an aviator in the Navy and then joined DuPont as a chemical engineer, contributing to projects around the globe. His career at DuPont carried him and his family from Waynesboro, VA to Londonderry, Northern Ireland; Campinas, Brazil; Camden, SC, and finally Wilmington, DE where he retired in 1994. He was an avid gardener, swimmer, bridge player, and sudoku savant. Bill cherished his family and their annual beach vacations at Emerald Isle, NC.
Bill’s remains will be interred at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery on June 20th, 2025, at 1PM.
