Theodore Aloysius Dorsett

Relatives and friends are advised of the passing of Theodore Aloysius Dorsett Sr, affectionately known as “Ted or Dorsett”. He was born on February 23, 1941, in the Bronx, New York; he later made the Virgin Islands his home. He departed this life peacefully on September 15, 2026 in Wilmington, Delaware.

Theodore was a private man who let his actions speak for him. He served honorably in the U.S. Army as a sharpshooter, reaching the rank of Specialist Five (SP5/ E5), and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He went on to spend 40 years as a court reporter before retiring.

Ted, a devout Catholic, is survived by his wife of 22 years, Ana S. Lora de Dorsett; his children, Jason and Theodore Jr., and their mother, Lorna Dorsett; his children Yoquelin, Yonathan, Abriana, and Paloma; his grandchildren, Cesar, whom Theodore lovingly called “Mi Mundi,” Jalen, and Thalia Dorsett; and his brother, Timothy Dorsett.

Ted is also survived by his daughter in law, Taetia Phillips-Dorsett, nephews, Enpumes Heru Ankhmeni (Desmond T. Dorsett), Akinsheye Dorsett, Sylvester (Butch) Murray, Ahmad Dorsett, Ervin Dorsett Jr., nieces, Cheryl Dorsett-Brody, Danielle Smith, Chanequa Davis, and Monique Dorsett, Montrece Eleazer, Sister-in-Love Wanda Dorsett, special friends Lionel Connor Sr., Herbert (Herbie) Muriel, Vashti Gerald-Berry, Nataya Munoz, Persha Warner, Verdel Porter Chandra Kean, Janice Stout, Archie Jennings, Lionel Warrel, Wilson Geronimo, Karleen & Antonio Enrique, and many friends and family too numerous to mention.

Ted was preceded in death by his father, George Dorsett, Sr.; his mother, Frances Dorsett; his sisters, Birdie Mae Dorsett, Phoebe Dorsett, and Arleen Dorsett; his sister in law, Dr. Beryl Dorsett, his brothers, Ervin Dorsett, Sr., Michael Dorsett, and George Dorsett, Jr.; his Uncle, Ervin Dorsett; his nephew, Kelly Pierson; his nieces, Tasha Eleazer, Frances Elliot, Michelle Eleazer; and Deidre Gaines. May he rest in eternal peace. You will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Nichols - Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 East Justis Street Newport, DE 19804. A second viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 from 11:00 AM to Noon at St. Rocco Catholic Church, 333 Sunny Dell Road Avondale, PA 19311 with a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Noon. Burial will be held at 2:00 PM at The Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road Bear, DE 19701.

La velatoria tendrá lugar el miércoles 30 de septiembre de 2026 de 9:00 a 10:30 en la funeraria Nichols - Gilmore, 212 East Justis Street Newport, DE 19804. La segunda velatoria tendrá lugar el miércoles 30 de septiembre de 2026 de 11:00 a mediodía en la iglesia católica St. Rocco, 333 Sunny Dell Road Avondale, PA 19311, seguida de una misa de funeral cristiano al mediodía. El entierro tendrá lugar a las 14:00 en el Cementerio Conmemorativo de Veteranos de Delaware, 2465 Chesapeake City Road Bear, DE 19701.
