It's with profound sadness and endless love, we announce the passing of Susan Irene Campbell Schandel, who left this world on May 18, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Though her family’s hearts are broken, they take comfort in knowing she is finally at peace after fighting so hard with unwavering strength and determination.

Born in San Fernando, Los Angeles, California on April 19, 1960, Susan was the daughter of Dorothy and Geoffrey Campbell. She spent much of her childhood traveling before eventually settling in Delaware, where she raised her beloved family and built a life centered around love, kindness, and togetherness.

Susan was truly one of a kind — the most kind-hearted soul anyone could ever know. She would give you her last dollar if you needed it and never turned away any of her children, grandchildren, family members, or friends when they needed help, comfort, or support. Her love was unconditional, selfless, and constant.

Her greatest joy in life was being a mother and grandmother. She was the proud mother of five children: Christopher Schandel and his wife, Alyse Schandel; Geoffrey Schandel; Sarah McCormick; Mary Schandel; and William Schandel, lovingly known as the baby of the family. She was also a devoted grandmother to 13 grandchildren: Joshua Snavely, Isaiah Schandel, Christopher Schandel, Alexis Wijkowski, Bri'yanna Schandel, Christopher Turner, Xavier Schandel, Tyree Schandel, Jayden Blue, Noah Sierra, Lillian Sierra, Niko Schandel and Nora Schandel. She was additionally blessed with four great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved beyond measure and cherished with her whole heart.

Susan never wanted to miss a single event involving her children or grandchildren. Whether it was a game, recital, birthday, school function, or simple family gathering, she wanted to be there cheering everyone on. Family meant everything to her, and some of her happiest moments were spent surrounded by those she loved most.

She found joy in life’s simple and beautiful moments. Susan loved baking, gardening, crafting, and taking on DIY projects with excitement and creativity. She adored tulips, treasured her cherished Yadro figurines, and absolutely loved her cats, who brought her endless comfort and companionship over the years.

Susan also had a playful spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. She loved sending daily jokes to her children and always thought they were the funniest thing ever. Her laughter, warmth, stubbornness, and loving personality brought light into the lives of everyone around her.

Professionally, Susan built a successful career in leasing, earning many awards and accomplishments throughout the years. She was respected not only for her hard work and dedication but for the kindness and genuine care she showed to everyone she encountered.

Above all, Susan was a fighter. She battled cancer with incredible courage, resilience, and determination. Even during the hardest times, she continued to love deeply, care for others, and fight her way through life with grace and strength.

Susan shared a lifelong bond with her best friend and sister-in-law, Susan Schandel, who she considered a true sister. Their friendship, which began in childhood, remained a constant source of love, laughter, and support throughout her life. She also shared a special bond with Anne Spicer, the wife of her sister-in-law Susan Schandel, whose love, friendship, and presence brought joy to Susan and her family throughout the years.

Susan leaves behind a family who loved her endlessly and a legacy of compassion, strength, generosity, and unconditional love that will live on forever through every life she touched.

Though our hearts ache without you here, your love surrounds us still in every memory, every laugh, every flower that blooms, and every family gathering filled with love.

We love you to the heavens and beyond, Mom. Forever and always.
