Reinaldo “Ray” Alamo, 65, of New Castle, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 2026, with his beloved daughter by his side.
Although Ray was born in Puerto Rico and spent his final days in Delaware, he was a true New Yorker through and through. Raised in Brooklyn, he carried the grit, loyalty, and heart of New York with him wherever life took him. That spirit shaped how he loved his family, how he showed up for others, and how he faced every challenge placed before him.
A lifelong fan of football and boxing, Ray admired strength, perseverance, and heart. Those same qualities defined his life. Even in his final moments, he fought with the same determination he respected in the ring, holding on with courage and resolve until the very end. He passed in peace, surrounded by love.
Ray found joy in being together with those he loved. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with family, and especially cooking. A proud grill master known for his seafood, Ray used food as a way to bring people together. His meals created laughter, connection, and lasting memories that will live on in the hearts of many.
Above all, Ray was a loving father, a proud grandfather, a devoted brother, and a beloved uncle. The bonds he formed throughout his life were deep and meaningful, built on loyalty, protection, and unconditional love. Those bonds do not end with his passing.
Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Macy Alamo; his parents, Ernesto and Monseratte Alamo; his brothers, Edgardo Alamo, Raul Alamo, and Hector Alamo; and his nephew, Jeremy Lantigua. It brings comfort to know that he is now reunited with them, welcomed home by the family who went before him, reunited in peace.
He is survived by his cherished daughter, Nina Alamo; his treasured grandson, Anthony “AJ” Sumlin; his brother, Ernesto Alamo; and his sisters, Migdalia Alamo, Zolia Alamo, Minam Cruz, and Carmen Alamo.
Ray will be remembered for his strength, warmth, and unwavering love for his family. Though he may be gone from our sight, his spirit lives on in the stories shared, the meals prepared in his honor, and the enduring family bonds he helped create.
Services will be held at 1:30 PM on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 East Justis Street, Newport, DE 19804, where visitation will begin at Noon.
