Ralph E. Durham, age 70, of Newark, formerly of Wilmington, was called home on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
Born in Wilmington in 1955, Ralph will be remembered by his animated presence and unmistakable personality-paired with a sensitive and caring disposition that those close to him knew well.
In his younger years, he proudly served as a volunteer firefighter and emergency vehicle operator—roles he spoke of with pride and remembered fondly throughout his life. He most recently worked at Wayman Fire Protection.
Ralph was a proud American who cared deeply about his country and followed politics and current events with passion. He loved to read and stay informed and was always up for a lively conversation—especially when it came to politics, current events, or whatever he had most recently read about—often fueled by a steady supply of coffee.
He had an eclectic taste in music, favoring classic rock, which often served as the soundtrack to his day. He enjoyed radios and cars, and he had a soft spot for animals, who seemed to instinctively find their way to him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Adams; his son, Matthew Durham; and his wife, Loretta Kasehagen-Durham.
Ralph is survived by his son, Adam Meadows; his daughters, Patricia Vacca (Michael), Melissa Perkins, and Jessica Gestwicki; his stepsons, Michael (Susan) and Leo (Cris); his brothers, Ronnie Schafferman and Jimmy Schafferman; and his sister, Lisa Eachus (Robbie). He also leaves behind ten beloved grandchildren—Giavanna, Michael Jr., Nathan, Anna Claire, Tyler, Gabrielle, Philip, Samantha, Maddison, and Anna Sophia—along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will cherish his memory.
Due to weather conditions, the graveside service will now be held in the Chapel at All Saints Cemetery on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington, Delaware 19808, where friends and family may gather to say a final goodbye.
