Oscar C. Bermudez Vergaray

Con profundo pesar, anunciamos el fallecimiento de Oscar C. Bermúdez Vergaray, cariñosamente conocido por su familia y amigos como "Cholo". Esposo, padre, abuelo, bisabuelo, hijo y amigo ejemplar, la bondad, generosidad y el espíritu inolvidable de Oscar dejaron una huella imborrable en la vida de todos los que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerlo.

Nacido en Perú, Oscar hizo de los Estados Unidos su hogar en el año 2018, trayendo consigo un corazón lleno de amor, una admirable ética de trabajo y una personalidad capaz de iluminar cualquier lugar con su presencia.

Era conocido por ser siempre alegre, amable y por iniciar conversación con cualquier persona que conociera. Curioso por naturaleza, disfrutaba aprender, compartir sus conocimientos y encontrar soluciones incluso a los problemas más difíciles. Si algo se dañaba, Oscar sabía cómo arreglarlo. Si surgía un desafío, él encontraba la manera de resolverlo. Su creatividad, ingenio y perfeccionismo fueron algunas de las muchas cualidades que hicieron que todos lo admiraran.

Oscar sentía una profunda devoción por San Martín de Porres, cuyo ejemplo de humildad y compasión inspiró su manera de vivir. Siempre estaba dispuesto a ayudar a los demás y muy pocas veces, si es que alguna, decía que no a quien necesitara de él. Servicial, confiable y desinteresado, siempre ponía las necesidades de los demás antes que las suyas, sin dudarlo.

Quienes tuvieron la dicha de conocer an Oscar siempre recordarán su singular sentido del humor y esos pequeños detalles que lo hacían inolvidable.

Solía usar un palo como si fuera la varita mágica de Harry Potter para encender y apagar las luces, provocando sonrisas y risas entre quienes lo rodeaban. Le gustaba hacer las cosas a su manera y tenía un apodo especial para casi todas las personas que conocía, haciendo que cada una se sintiera única y especial.

Oscar fue un apasionado seguidor del Club Alianza Lima durante toda su vida. Nunca se perdía un partido y apoyaba con orgullo a su querido equipo en cada victoria y en cada derrota. También compartió un vínculo muy especial con su fiel perro, Shaggy, quien falleció en 2019. Shaggy fue mucho más que una mascota; fue su mejor amigo.

Por encima de todo, Oscar fue un hombre profundamente dedicado a su familia. Fue el mejor hijo, cuidando de su querida madre con un amor y una dedicación inquebrantables. Nunca se apartó de su lado y siempre se aseguró de que no le faltara nada. El amor que sentía por su familia se reflejaba en cada sacrificio que hizo y en cada acto de bondad que tuvo con quienes amaba.

Oscar fue precedido en la muerte por sus amados padres, Atanacio Bermúdez y Herminia Vergaray.

Deja para honrar su memoria a su amada esposa de 50 años, Ana M. Gutiérrez Sánchez, quien estuvo a su lado en cada etapa de sus vidas. También deja a sus queridos hijos: Elizabeth y su esposo Anthony, madre de Zuseth y Braden; Yesica y su esposo Javier, madre de Aylin; Vanessa, madre de Nicholas; Oscar y su esposa Selena, padre de Derek y Genesis; y Margeory, madre de Jaziel. También fue el orgulloso bisabuelo de Osiris, amado hijo de su nieta Zuseth.

Oscar también deja un legado de amor entre su familia extendida. Compartió un vínculo muy especial con su sobrino, Luis Aguayo, a quien cariñosamente llamaba "Kike". Desde que Oscar llegó a Delaware, Luis siempre estuvo a su lado. Oscar amaba a Luis como a un hijo, y el lazo que compartían era verdaderamente inquebrantable.

También mantuvo una relación muy especial con su querido primo, Mario, quien permaneció en Perú. A pesar de la distancia, nunca perdieron el contacto y hablaban con frecuencia. Oscar llamaba cariñosamente a Mario con apodos especial como "El Canoso" y "Narizón", reflejando el humor, el cariño y la amistad de toda una vida que compartían.

Aunque la presencia física de Oscar será profundamente extrañada, su alegría, sabiduría, generosidad y los innumerables recuerdos que creó vivirán para siempre en el corazón de todos los que tuvieron la dicha de conocerlo y amarlo. Su legado perdurará como un ejemplo de amor incondicional, dedicación inquebrantable a su familia y una vida vivida con propósito, bondad y alegría.

En Nueva York, el servicio funerario tendrá lugar el sábado 1 de agosto a las 11:00 a. m. en la funeraria BALSOMO FUNERAL HOME (3188 Westchester Ave, Bronx, NY 10461), donde las visitas comenzarán a las 9:00 a. m. Posteriormente, se realizará el sepelio en el cementerio Oakland Cemetery (2 Saw Mill River Road, Yonkers, NY 10701).

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Oscar C. Bermudez Vergaray, lovingly known to family and friends as "Cholo." A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, and friend, Oscar's kindness, generosity, and unforgettable spirit touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born in Peru, Oscar made the United States his home in 2018, bringing with him a heart full of love, an incredible work ethic, and a personality that could brighten any room.

He was known for always being happy, welcoming, and eager to strike up a conversation with anyone he met. Curious by nature, he loved learning, sharing knowledge, and finding solutions to even the most difficult problems. If something was broken, Oscar could fix it. If there was a challenge, he would find a way. His creativity, innovation, and perfectionism were among the many qualities that made him so admired.

Oscar had a deep devotion to St. Martin de Porres, whose example of humility and compassion inspired his life. He was always willing to help others and rarely, if ever, said no to someone in need. Accommodating, dependable, and selfless, he put the needs of others before his own without hesitation.

Those who knew Oscar will always remember his unique sense of humor and the little things that made him unforgettable.

He would use a stick like Harry Potter's wand to turn lights on and off, bringing laughter to those around him. He loved doing things his own way and had a special nickname for just about everyone he met, making each person feel uniquely connected to him.

Oscar was a lifelong and passionate supporter of Alianza Lima, never missing a match and proudly cheering on his beloved team through every victory and defeat. He also shared a special bond with his faithful dog, Shaggy, who passed away in 2019. Shaggy was more than a pet; he was Oscar's best friend.

Above all else, Oscar was a devoted family man. He was the best son, caring for his beloved mother with unwavering love and dedication, never leaving her side and ensuring she always had everything she needed. His love for his family was evident in every sacrifice he made and every act of kindness he showed.

Oscar was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Atanacio Bermudez and Herminia Vergaray.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Ana M. Gutierrez Sanchez, who stood beside him through every chapter of life. He is also survived by his beloved children: Elizabeth and her husband Anthony, mother of Zuseth and Braden; Yesica and her husband Javier, mother of Aylin; Vanessa, mother of Nicholas; Oscar and his wife Selena, father of Derek and Genesis; and Margeory, mother of Jaziel. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Osiris, the beloved child of his granddaughter, Zuseth.

Oscar also leaves behind a legacy of love among his extended family. He shared an especially close bond with his nephew, Luis Aguayo, whom affectionately called him "Kike." From the moment Oscar moved to Delaware, Luis never left his side and was always there to support him. Oscar loved Luis like a son, and the bond they shared was truly unbreakable.

He also shared a special relationship with his beloved cousin, Mario, who remained in Peru. Despite the distance, they never lost contact and spoke often. Oscar lovingly gave Mario many nicknames, including "El Canoso" and "Narizón,"reflecting the humor, affection, and lifelong friendship they shared.

Although Oscar's physical presence will be deeply missed, his laughter, wisdom, generosity, and the countless memories he created will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His legacy is one of unconditional love, unwavering devotion to family, and a life lived with purpose, kindness, and joy.

May he rest in eternal peace.

A funeral service in Delaware will be held at 4 pm on Thursday, July 30 at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis St. Newport, DE 19804 where visitation will begin at 2 pm.

In New York a funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, August 1 at BALSOMO FUNERAL HOME, 3188 Westchester Ave, Bronx, NY 10461 where visitation will begin at 9 am. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, 2 Saw Mill River Road, Yonkers, NY 10701.
