Maria Antonia Coppola

d. November 19, 2025

Maria A Coppola, 77 years old of New Castle, Delaware, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

Maria was born in Sicily, Italy, on June 1st, 1948, and lived with her parents and younger brother Carmelo until the age of eight. Maria then moved with her family to Canada, where she enjoyed spending time with her cousins Marie and Tony in Laval, Quebec, Canada. After some time, her family then settled in Poughkeepsie, New York, where she later met the love of her life. After marrying on June 7th, 1970, they then moved to Red Bank, New Jersey, where Maria, alongside her husband Nicola, began working in a relative’s pizzeria and later welcomed their two children, Giuseppe and Angela. Shortly after Maria and Nicola decided to open their own pizza shop called Paisano’s Pizza right over the bridge in New Castle, Delaware. Maria was the face of Paisano’s Pizza, working alongside her husband and children for over 20 years. When she was not at the pizzeria, Maria enjoyed caring for her home and supporting her children as well as many of the children in the neighborhood; some even referred to Maria as the neighborhood Mom. After the unfortunate loss of her husband, Maria began caring for children at La Petite Academy for the next 15 years. She loved each and every child she took care of, and the parents absolutely adored her as well. Maria made many coworker friends and truly loved and cared for those children as if they were her own until her retirement in 2016. Maria then spent her retirement with her grandchildren and family. She loved their annual beach trip, shopping, crocheting, watching Catholic Mass on tv, and baking Christmas and Easter cookies. Maria was a compassionate and loving woman who loved to spend her time among her family and friends and poured her love into her cooking.

Maria is preceded in death by her husband Nicola Coppola, her mother Angela Surico, her stepfather Valerio Surico and unborn great-grandchild who welcomed her into heaven. She is survived by many people she loved dearly, including her brother Carmelo Maccarone, and her two children Giuseppe (Stacy) Coppola and Angela (Kevin) Bedwell. She also adored spending time and spoiling her grandchildren Jessica Coppola, Alexandra (Michael) Collier, Adrianna (Jacob) Hoke, Joshua (Aly) Coppola, Nicole Bedwell, and Josie Coppola. In addition, her recently added great-grandson Nicholas Coppola. Maria also loved her many nieces and nephews and made friends and family everywhere she went. Maria was truly loved by all.
