Juanita Montes

With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Juanita Montes, who entered eternal rest at the age of 90, surrounded by the people she loved and listening to worship.

Juanita was born on May 17, 1935, in Hormiguero, Puerto Rico, a place she held close to her heart throughout her life. She was deeply proud of her roots and made it a priority to pass down her culture, traditions, and stories so that they would live on for generations to come.

A woman of extraordinary strength, Juanita faced many challenges, adversities, and illnesses throughout her life. Yet through it all, she carried herself with unwavering courage, determination, and a beautiful sense of humor that could bring light even in the darkest moments.

Although she was our biological grandmother, she was our Mom in every way that mattered. She raised, loved, and stood beside us with a devotion that only a mother could give. Her love was constant, unconditional, and deeply rooted in family.

Juanita found joy in the simplest yet most meaningful moments of life. She loved cooking, playing bingo, and spending time with those she loved. Some of our most treasured memories are the late nights spent together—looking through her bags filled with old family photos, sharing stories, laughing, and ending those nights with ice cream. She loved listening to music, and she would never turn down a warm cup of coffee.

Her signature red lipstick and red nails were a staple of who she was—bold, beautiful, and full of life, just like her spirit. She carried herself with pride and grace, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Juanita also held a special place in her heart for her friends from Los Jardines, who over time became family. The love and bonds she built there were just as meaningful as those within her own home.

More than anything, Juanita was a woman of faith. She taught us the importance of serving the Lord, being good people, and helping others no matter their circumstances. She lived her life with compassion, kindness, and generosity—truly a woman with a heart of gold.

We are incredibly grateful for the 90 beautiful years we were blessed to share with her. While our hearts are broken by how quickly her health declined and the void her passing leaves behind, we find comfort in knowing she is now at peace and finally at rest.

She is lovingly survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry her love, strength, and legacy within them.

Juanita Montes will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. Her memory will live on in every story told, every tradition continued, and every life she touched.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 6, 2026 at Nichols - Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 East Justis Street Newport, DE 19804, where visitation will begin at Noon.

Con profunda tristeza y corazones apesadumbrados, anunciamos el fallecimiento de nuestra querida Juanita Montes, que entró en el descanso eterno a la edad de 90 años, rodeada de las personas que amaba y escuchando la adoración.

Juanita nació el 17 de mayo de 1935 en Hormiguero, Puerto Rico, un lugar que mantuvo cerca de su corazón durante toda su vida. Estaba profundamente orgullosa de sus raíces y se convirtió en una prioridad transmitir su cultura, tradiciones e historias para que vivieran para las generaciones venideras.

Una mujer de extraordinaria fuerza, Juanita enfrentó muchos desafíos, adversidades y enfermedades a lo largo de su vida. Sin embargo, a través de todo, se llevó con coraje inquebrantable, determinación y un hermoso sentido del humor que podía traer luz incluso en los momentos más oscuros.

Aunque era nuestra abuela biológica, era nuestra madre en todos los sentidos que importaban. Ella crió, amó y estuvo a nuestro lado con una devoción que solo una madre podría dar. Su amor era constante, incondicional y profundamente arraigado en la familia.

Juanita encontró alegría en los momentos más simples pero más significativos de la vida. Le encantaba cocinar, jugar al bingo y pasar tiempo con los que amaba. Algunos de nuestros recuerdos más preciados son las noches que pasamos juntos, mirando a través de sus bolsas llenas de viejas fotos familiares, compartiendo historias, riendo y terminando esas noches con helado. Le encantaba escuchar música, y nunca rechazaría una taza de café caliente.

Su característico lápiz labial rojo y sus uñas rojas eran un elemento básico de lo que era: audaz, hermosa y llena de vida, al igual que su espíritu. Se llevó con orgullo y gracia, dejando una impresión duradera en todos los que conoció.

Juanita también tenía un lugar especial en su corazón para sus amigos de Los Jardines, que con el tiempo se convirtieron en familia. El amor y los lazos que construyó allí fueron tan significativos como los de su propia casa.

Más que nada, Juanita era una mujer de fe. Ella nos enseñó la importancia de servir al Señor, ser buenas personas y ayudar a los demás sin importar sus circunstancias. Vivió su vida con compasión, amabilidad y generosidad, verdaderamente una mujer con un corazón de oro.

Estamos increíblemente agradecidos por los 90 hermosos años que hemos sido bendecidos por compartir con ella. Mientras nuestros corazones están rotos por la rapidez con la que su salud disminuyó y el vacío que su fallecimiento deja atrás, encontramos consuelo en saber que ahora está en paz y finalmente en reposo.

Le sobreviven amorosamente sus hijos, nietos, bisnietos y tataranietos, todos los cuales llevan su amor, fuerza y legado dentro de ellos.

Juanita Montes será profundamente extrañada, amada para siempre y nunca olvidada. Su memoria vivirá en cada historia contada, en cada tradición continuada y en cada vida que tocó.

El servicio funerario se celebrará a la 1:00 PM del lunes 6 de abril de 2026 en la funeraria Nichols - Gilmore, 212 East Justis Street Newport, DE 19804, donde comenzarán las visitas al mediodía.
