Joseph Michael Dillon, lovingly known as Mike, or Irish Mike, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, at the age of 84. A resident of Hockessin, Delaware, and formerly of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Donna Von Ahnen Dillon, who remained faithfully by his side throughout their life’s journey. He was a proud father to his children Kathy Dillon, Kelly Dillon, and Michelle Dillon Tollis (John); a beloved stepfather to his stepchildren Alan Von Ahnen, Sherry Von Ahnen, David Von Ahnen, and Rod Mahaffy (Paula); also survived by his brother Richard Dillon (Peggy), and his half-brother Ned Gilchrist (Nemia). His enduring love extended to his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom brought him great joy.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Sean Dillon and Patrick Dillon; his sisters Robin Dillon, Myrtle Dillon, and Theresa Dillon; and his half-brother Gilbert Callahan.
Mike graduated from High School in 1959. He attended college before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, where he specialized in electronics. After his military service, he worked as a union security officer for Capital International Airways. He then spent 34 years with Amtrak until his retirement.
Mike met Donna while dancing at the Hunter’s Den, and their connection grew into a lasting bond. He loved watching sports and attending games—especially cheering on his favorite teams, the Eagles and the Phillies. He was a proud member of American Legion Post 30, the Prince of Piedmont in Wilmington, and Saint Anthony’s Club. Above all, he cherished hanging out with his many friends, and playing bocce ball.
