John H. McDowell, "Farmer John", died at home on Christmas day, 2012.
John was retired from Chrysler in 1985. In his early years John was a farmer in the Middletown area. He was a member of the UAW. John loved his time at Indian River Inlet where he enjoyed fishing and socializing.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, in 1968; his parents, Adelaide and Francis McDowell, Sr; his brother, Francis McDowell, Jr; and his sister, Anna Thompson; Survivors include his daughters, Ruth Homiak, Rayma Vreeland and Donna Younker Meyrick; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00am, Saturday, December 29th at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis St., Newport, where visitation will begin at 10:00am. Burial will be at St. Georges Cemetery.
A special thanks for taking care of their "Poppy" to his caregivers, Carmen and Ginger.
The family suggests contributions in John's memory to Delaware Hospice.
