Georgette Frances DiVirgilis, a woman defined by her boundless capacity for kindness and a gentle spirit, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, in Newark, Delaware, at the age of 78.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Georgette was the beloved daughter of the late George Francis Staker Sr. and Rose Marshall. She resided in Delaware most of her life, where she cultivated a life centered on compassion and generosity.
Georgette was widely known for her exceptional goodness; she was, quite simply, the kindest person one could ever meet. Her generosity knew no limits; she consistently shared her time and limited resources to assist others in need, demonstrating a rare and beautiful selflessness. She possessed a marvelous sense of humor and an unmatched ability to find joy and levity even in challenging times. This unwavering optimism and warmth were the enduring hallmarks of her character.
She found great fulfillment in her cherished hobbies, dedicating countless hours to crocheting, crafting beautiful pieces for loved ones and generously donating her completed work and time to the Salvation Army. An avid reader, she found comfort in literature, but above all, treasured moments spent in the company of her friends and beloved family. (Note: While unconfirmed by official sources, there is a prevailing theory among those closest to her that she was, in fact, Wonder Woman, as the two were never seen in the same room.)
Georgette’s memory will be forever cherished by her devoted daughter, Pearl McNair, and her son-in-law, Jason McNair.
She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, who were a great source of pride and joy, Nina De Jesus and her spouse, Kayla “La” De Jesus McNair, Martina McNair and her spouse, Kathleen “Kat” Ford; and her loyal and much-loved Grand Dog, Jack; her loving sisters, Kathy Breslin and Sue Shoemaker, and a wide host of nieces and nephews who will dearly miss her guiding presence.
Georgette was preceded in death by her brother, George Francis Staker Jr., and her sister, Drucilla Ridley.
Per Georgette’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no public viewing. A Memorial Service to celebrate her incredible life will be held after the New Year. Details regarding the date, time, and location will be announced by the family.
