George “Leslie” Wilhelme, affectionately known as Les, passed away on October 13, 2026, surrounded by love and family. Born on October 26, 1946, in North Wilmington, DE. Les lived a life full of joy, laughter, and dedication to those he held dear.
Les was predeceased by his beloved partner of 45 years, Gladys “Beanie” Golt, with whom he built a life rich in love and adventure. He is survived by his cherished children, Dennis Golt, Jack Golt, Debbi Heath (Tommy), and Jimmy Golt, who carry forward his legacy of warmth and generosity. His grandchildren, Michael Heath (Jessica) and Nicole Landoll (John), along with his eight great-grandchildren, Kiley, Michael, Aiden, Hailyn, Kellen, Brantland, Johnny, and Rhett, brought immense joy into his life, and he delighted in every moment spent with them. Les's career was a tapestry of creativity and service.
He spent many years as a stage manager for bands like Redbone and Mouzakis, sharing his passion for music with the world. For 35 years, he dedicated himself to Happy Harry’s as a warehouse truck driver, and for 21 years, he served as a school bus aide, alongside of Madeline Rodriguez, a treasured friend and family, for over 15 years, who was a source of great happiness and support. Les touched the lives of countless children with his kindness and humor. In retirement, he embraced the opportunity to travel and spend quality time with his family.
A man of varied interests, Les was an avid lover of trains and the holidays, particularly Christmas. His festive spirit shone brightly as he built platforms for his trains, sharing the joy of locomotives with his great-grandchildren. He found happiness in trips to the boardwalk, where he was known for sharing little trinkets and treasures with his family. Bowling was another favorite pastime, and Les was a lively presence on the lanes, bringing laughter and cheer to all who joined him. Les was also a collector of memories, amassing a vast collection of movies, home videos, and photographs that celebrated the happy moments of his life.
Known for his "Goofy" persona, Les was a real-life embodiment of the beloved Mickey Mouse character, always ready with a silly joke or a kind gesture to brighten someone's day. His caring nature and willingness to provide for those he loved made him a beacon of generosity and love in his community. Les Wilhelme's legacy is one of laughter, love, and unwavering kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, forever inspiring them to live with joy and compassion.
The family would like to send their sincerest gratitude to Nichols- Gilmore Funeral Home for the absolute care, empathy, and true professionalism in the wake of Les’s passing.
