Age 80 of Newport, DE passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2006. Ernie retired from General Motors after 37 1/2 years of service. Prior to that he was a Millwright for the Dupont Co. He was a first class seaman, serving in the Navy, during WWII on the USS Stoddard.Ernie was a Golden Gloves boxer in the Navy, a member of St.Matthews Church and a member of the American Legion Post #28 in Millsboro. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed gardening and boating.
He was preceded in death by his wife, of 49 years, Anna E. Kardos, in 1995;his son, Ernest S. Kardos, Jr., in 1975;and his brother, Jimmy Kardos, in 2004. He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, with whom he had been living for the past 3 years, Deborah Ann Barrett& her husband Rex of Millsboro, DE;grandchildren, Addison Chandler and Kenny Broomall; a stepbrother, Frank Kardos of NJ; and several nieces, nephews and other family members. Ernie's family would like to thank Marge & Francia for their love and support.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 5th, at St. Matthews RC Church, Curtis and Maryland Aves., Woodcrest. Visitation will be from 9-9:30 am Saturday at Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 E. Justis St., Newport. Entombment will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington.
