Mr. Wood (88) of Charlotte, NC passed away on January 3, 2026. He was born on June 24, 1937 in Wilmington, DE to the late T. Henry and Madelyn Brehm Wood.
After graduating from Wilmington High School in 1955. Don entered the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. He was graduated by the University of Delaware in 1959 where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha and commissioned as a 2nd LT in the U.S. Army.
After active-duty Don returned to Wilmington, starting his business career with NVF Corp. and was transferred to Chicago in 1961 as a Sales Engineer. He began attending Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and earned an M.B.A.
In 1968 he joined Donnelley Marketing, then a division of The Dun and Bradstreet Corp as an Account Executive. During the next 22 years he held numerous management positions including Senior V.P. Sales and Marketing and President of Donnelley Marketing Information Services.
In 1990, Don became Vice President and General Manager of Triad Systems in Livermore, CA.
Retiring in 1996 he and his wife, Liz, moved to Hilton Head Island, SC, later relocating to Charlotte, NC.
In 1997, when it was decided to close Wilmington High School (WHS) an organization was formed to honor the more than 40,000 graduates. Don was included in the WHS Wall of Fame with 90 other graduates spanning many decades.
Don is survived by his wife, Liz, of 63 Years, their son Craig of San Diego, CA , their daughter, Allison Lloyd (Tom Honig) of Indian Land, SC and grandson Brandon (Lindsay) of Anderson, SC, great-grandchild Finley.
He enjoyed golf, boating on Lake Wylie, vintage cars, classical music, art, history, travel and genealogy. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
He has been a volunteer at the James K. Polk Memorial Site in Pineville and was President of the Support group for 5 years. Mr. Wood, also volunteered with SCORE for 10 years, (a free consulting service for small businesses sponsored by the Small Business Administration). He was a member of the board and Treasurer for some years.
A memorial service will be announced.
