Ana Julia Cabrera

d. June 30, 2025

With deep love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Anna Julia Cabrera, who entered eternal rest on June 30th,surrounded by her devoted family.

Born on April 12, 1950, in Navarrete, Dominican Republic to Sofia and Manuel Cabrera. Julia came to the United States in 1972, making Brooklyn, New York her home. There, she raised her two beloved sons, Edgard and Andy Hernandez, with strength, grace, and unwavering dedication. A woman of profound warmth and generosity, Julia began working as a caretaker for the children in her building so that the mothers in her community could work and provide for their families. As her sons grew older, she continued her life of service, becoming a nursing assistant and lovingly caring for the sick and elderly with great compassion.

A proud member of Transfiguration Church in Brooklyn, Julia’s faith guided her life and the way she treated others. She loved music, dancing, and preparing meals that brought everyone together at the table. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and taking care of her cherished cat, Juniper—lovingly known as “Chi-Chi.”

She is survived by her sons, Edgard Hernandez and his wife Gina Hernandez, and Andy Hernandez; her treasured grandchildren, Arianna, Christos, Nicholas, and Benjamin Hernandez; her dear brothers Raphael (“Felo”) Cabrera and Felix Cabrera; and her beloved sisters Anna, Karina, Ada, Olga, Anna Maria, and Gracia Martinez.

Her life was a shining example of love in action—rooted in faith, service, and family. Julia will be deeply missed, but her legacy of kindness, strength, and love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Noon on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 12 Winder Road New Castle, DE 19720, where visitation will begin at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington, DE 19808.
