Obituary for Steven Richard Eachus

Steven Richard Eachus, age 76, of Wilmington, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 16, 2023.

Steve was born to Preston J. Eachus and Dorothy M. Eachus. He graduated from Media High School in 1965 where he was voted the quietest in his class. Soon after graduating he joined the US Army, doing a tour of duty in Vietnam. Using the GI Bill he was the first in his family to graduate with a bachelors degree from Wilmington College.

Steve worked at E.I. DuPont de Nemours Edge Moor Plant for 42 years before retiring in 2011 because his son was deployed to Afghanistan and he knew his family would need him to be available.

He was very active in Special Olympics being a bowling unified partner and the coach for Adam’s Angels soccer and softball teams. The Eachus family was the Special Olympics Family of the Year in 2004

Steve loved baseball. He helped coach Brandywine Springs School’s baseball team for several years. He also loved bowling (which he was good at) and golf (which he was not). He was also an avid Phillies fan.

Steve was a man of great faith that he relied on constantly. He was a man that was available to his family and friends no matter what was needed. He loved his family with a strength and love that was unequaled. If the world loved like he did the world would be a much kinder place.

Steve was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Donald, Sidney (Bud), and David; his sisters, Lorraine Eachus, Connie Jennings and Norma; sister -in- law Patricia Moore; nieces, Cindy Moore and Tammy Bennington; and nephew Larry Melvin.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathie; his son, Steven Richard “Rick” (Shannon); his brothers, Lawrence (Debbie) and Warren (Carol); sister -in-laws, Maryanne Eachus and Gale Eachus; and three grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 1700 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19804, where visitation will begin at 9:30 AM.
