Obituary for Sharon Hughes Bryan

Sharon Hughes Bryan, a soul of grace, of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, formerly of Newark, DE, concluded her earthly journey on December 30, 2023 at the age of 79, surrounded by her close family.

She was born on August 23, 1944, in Wilmington, Delaware, the youngest of seven siblings who were declared the 8 Angels by her mother, Margaret Hammerer Hughes Mohler and father, Francis Hughes and surrounded by all their love and affection.

In her earlier years, Sharon attended Corpus Christi Catholic School, graduating in 1962. She went on to have a successful career, working at DuPont in Wilmington, DE, as well as Joseph J. Sheeran, Inc. Advertising and the Federal Aviation Administration and the Department of Justice in the federal government before retiring.

Outside of work, Sharon enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling (especially cruising), going to the beach, being by the water, enjoying mother nature, antiquing, thrifting, yard sales, playing bingo, and bunco.

Sharon was known for her kind and loving nature, always caring for those around her. She took pride in her family and cherished spending time with them. Sharon had a sweet and caring personality that touched the lives of many.

Sharon was a pillar of strength and tenderness, adored by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by her son, Jerry Bryan (Kathy) and daughter, Sheri Brittingham (Ray). She was a cherished partner to Ray Brown. Held a special place in the hearts of her grandchildren; grandchildren, Kristen Hibbett (Nick), Brittany Burslem, Meghan Keating (Nate), Rebecca Hailstone (Wayne), Sarah McIntire (Cody), Michael Brittingham and Benjamin Brittingham; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was a cherished partner to Ray Brown. Sharon is also survived by her dear friend, Gail Chapman, and several nieces and nephews.

Sharon was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Hammerer Hughes Mohler, her father, Francis Hughes, her son, Robbie Bryan, her sisters, Joy Phelps, Louise Russum, Dorothy Frankel, her brothers, Francis Hughes and James Hughes, and her sister-in-law, Mary (Kay) Hughes.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, from 6:30 to 8:30pm at Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home, located at 212 E. Justis St., Newport, DE 19804. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Wednesday, January 10, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, 345 Bear-Christiana Rd, Bear, DE 19701 with Burial to follow at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Avenue Wilmington, DE 19805.
