Obituary for Ronald M. Boyce

Ronald M. Boyce, age 87, of Bear, formerly of Newport, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.

Ron was a Veteran of the United States Army Reserves. He worked at the Delaware City Refinery for 40 years before retiring in 2000, and then at Artesian Water for 20 years before retiring again in 2023.

Ron was a Union member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 74. He enjoyed restoring cars- especially Ford Mustangs, working on and riding motorcycles. In his earlier days he loved to race dirt bikes. He never stopped learning all he could, which reflected in his work as well as his hobbies. If something could be taken apart and reassembled, he made it a point to know how.

He had a deep passion for the Old West, and found fascination with every aspect of its lore and history. His love for the Old West aesthetic was so great that he embarked on a few of his own journeys to visit the very locations he loved to see on TV. On his most recent trip, he visited Silverton, CO and finally got an authentic stagecoach ride. He said it was bumpy- but had no regrets.

Ron loved his family and spending time with them, and was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Joanne Boyce, who passed in 2017; his son, Joel Boyce, who passed in 2015; his brother Richard Boyce and sister, Nancy Dougherty.

Survivors include his son, Michael (Dawn); daughter, Kelly (Wednesday); grandchildren, Rhiannon and Sean; brother, Laval "Dick" Boyce (Lee) and Roger Boyce (Barbara).

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Peniel United Methodist Church, 115 E. Market Street Newport, DE 19804, where visitation will begin at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. Dupont Hwy New Castle, DE 19720.
