Obituary for Roland W. Lawhead

Roland W. Lawhead, age 90, of Middletown, DE, formerly of Clearfield, PA, passed away peacefully Friday, August 4, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.

Roland served in the United States Army as a Chef, and then joined the National Guard. He starting working at McDonalds, and finished his career at Chrysler for 33 years.

Roland was a proud UAW member. He also belonged to the American Legion, Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge. He was a Pittsburg Pirates, Steelers and Penn State fan. He also enjoyed NASCAR and his favorite driver #5, Kyle Larson.

Roland enjoyed preparing family dinners, crabbing, fishing, hunting, and traveling across country in a RV. He loved watching western movies, Jeopardy, and Let's Make A Deal.

Roland is preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Donna Lou (Hertlein); sons, Scott and Steve; grandsons Bruce and Eddie, and loving dog Bingo.

Survivors include his son, Bill Lawhead (Diane); daughter, Deborah Mahan; sister, Janet Lawrence (Richard); grandchildren, Dawn Farmer (James), Nikole Irelan (Dan), Chris Lawhead (Heather), John Lawhead, Danny Yearwood; great grandchildren, JD & Michael Farmer, Kyle martin, brody, and Ellie Lou Lawhead; and great great grandson, William Farmer.

He is also survived by his companion of seventeen years Irene Tearl.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 14, 2023 at Nichols - Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 East Justis Street Newport, DE 19804, where visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
