Obituary for Richard E. Reid Jr.

Print
Richard E Reid, Jr was born January 13, 1984 to Paulene McDonald and
Richard E Reid in Kingston, Jamaica. He was lovingly known as “Richie” to
his family and “Rich” to his friends. Richie loved being outdoors playing. He
was truly a nature boy. As a young child, he and his beloved sister, Ramonia,
lived many happy years together at their grandmother’s home in Irwin,
Jamaica.

Rich attended Corinaldi Avenue Primary School in Montego Bay,
Jamaica before moving to the United States in 1994. In the States, he attended
Robert E. Lamberton School of Philadelphia, Talley Middle School and Mount
Pleasant High School of Wilmington, DE before joining Keystone Job Corps in
Drums, PA. There he learned a trade and continued his education until his
graduation in 2001.

He was a highly accomplished artist who loved to sketch, draw and
paint. He had a passion for designing custom concept cars. His drawings were
so outstanding that one was accepted by Daimler Chrysler in 2001. As he grew
older, he added scenic photography to his repertoire. He enjoyed
photographing cityscapes and was often partial to filming in black and white.
Rich possessed an uncanny intellectual curiosity. Rich loved learning and
was an avid reader. He enjoyed many different types of literature and poetry
and was an amazing poet. He was a history buff and had a huge interest in
politics. He could speak with you for hours about both and had very, very
strong opinions and alliances.

Rich loved sports. Cricket, football (soccer), track & field and
tennis were his favorites. He also followed the Olympics in a major
way. Of course, he always rooted for his beloved Jamaica!
Rich was a very likeable guy who made friends and acquaintances
almost effortlessly. He was sometimes generous to a fault. If Rich
considered you a friend he wouldn’t hesitate to give you his last.
Because Rich was so likeable, people gravitated right to him. He
realized that this was one of his gifts and decided to use this gift to
pursue a career in hospitality. Rich began working as a hotel desk
agent, then concierge and was quickly promoted to manager. If you
were in his presence for even five minutes, you knew he was very
charming. This characteristic allowed him to be of great
service as a hotel manager and later as a security supervisor. He could
calm the most irate customer and motivate his employees with very
little effort.

Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Rich saw how much he
loved his family. He loved his mom and it was rare not to hear him
bragging about his big sister, Ramonia, his younger sister, Jazmyn or
saying how much he adored his baby sister, Jyuan. He and his three
sisters had a very special bond. As much as Richie enjoyed being the
little brother of Ramonia he treasured his role as big brother to Jazmyn
and later Jyuan. Richie and Jazmyn were super tight and shared many
dreams and interest, such as art. His relationships with his father and
brother, Collin, blossomed over the years and he was thankful that he
grew even closer to each of them. He loved and cared for his best
friends Toneyon and Tim and saw them as part of his family.
Rich accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior as a pre-teen and was
baptized at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, Philadelphia, PA. He
recommitted his life, as an adult, confirming such while conversing with his
family.

Our Lord, in His infinite wisdom, called Rich home October 29, 2019.
Although it was unexpected to the world, our heavenly Father wanted to
use Rich’s gifts of service and charm where they will forever be appreciated.
He leaves to cherish in his memories his mother, Paulene Morse;
Father, Richard E. Reid, Sr.; three sisters, Ramonia F Lemonias, Jazmyn J.
Morse, Jyuan Morse; one brother, Collin Baxter; one brother in law,
Jermaine Walsh; two best friends, Timothy Bazemore and Toneyon Milam,
as well as a hosts of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and
many, many loving friends.
