Obituary for Nancy Maclary Pearson

Nancy Maclary Pearson, age 91, of Newark, passed away at her home early Sunday morning, December 3, 2023.

Nancy was born to James H. Maclary and Alice Brown Maclary in Wilmington, DE. She worked with her Father at his store, Maclary's Market. Upon graduation from Goldey Beacon college, Nancy worked at Hercules as a Secretary to former State Senator William Roth.

On May 1, 1954, Nancy married the love of her life, George "Les" Pearson, Jr. In 1956, she worked by his side as Maclary's Market became Pearson's Hardware and grew into Pearson's Flags in 1995. An avid bowler and member of a weekly league, she helped support him and the business through devastating floods, and took command once Les's health declined and he had to step back before his death in 2008.

Nancy continued to successfully run the business with her daugher, Vicki, from 2008 until they decided it was time to retire and close the business in 2014. Although she enjoyed seeing her customers, after she went part time, Nancy was able to focus all of her attention on designing custom flags. This helped shine a light on her more creative side.

Upon retiring from the business in 2014, Nancy enjoyed working in the yard, doing various crafts, and taking weekly trips with Vicki to see her friends at Bally's Dover Downs Casino.

Nancy is survived by her younger brother, Ken Maclary of Hockessin, her older brother, James Maclary of Wood-crest, her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy P. and Dean W. Hemphill of Lake Dallas, TX, and her daughter, Vicki, who lived with her at the family home in Meadowood.

Funeral Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Delaware SPCA in Nancy's name, https://www.humaneanimalpartners.org/
