Obituary for Joseph R. Minnich

Joseph R. Minnich Sr. Age 59, of Newark Delaware was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday January 29,2022.

He was the son of Pearl and Ned Minnich. He graduated from The John Dickinson High School in 1980. He obtained his associates degree from Del-Tech in 1982, where he met his lovely bride, Mary, whom he loved very much. He was affectionately known by many for being someone who could talk to anyone and would. It did not matter who they were or even what language they spoke Joe was able to make you feel welcomed.

Joe worked as an Oracle Data Base Architect for over 20 years with FISERV formerly First Data. He was very accomplished in his job and extremely passionate about his work. To him it was not work it was what he loved to do and he never wanted to stop. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Church, where he attended church with his family since he was born.

Joe adored his children and took great pride in watching them grow, play sports and start their own families. One of his favorite pastimes became playing with his grandchildren. Joe was an avid sports fan, loving all of the Philadelphia sports teams. You would find him watching sports any day of the week a game was on, it did not matter the time and he loved to call his children during or after the game to talk about it. If you were around him enough during a game you were bound to hear him chant “go birds” or “BANG” at least once! Joe was able to see his beloved Eagles finally win him a Super Bowl. Some fond memories his sons have with him also include his love of fishing and taking them on fishing trips.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother Pearl and his sister Sandra Ann Minnich.

Joe was survived by his wife of 40 years Mary Minnich, his daughter Christine Coyle (Matt), his sons Joseph Jr. (Caitlin) and Matthew Sr. (Cathryn), his Father Ned Minnich, his brothers Mike (Kathy) and Kevin (Laura), and his grandchildren Jackson and Ava Coyle and Matthew Jr. and Madison Minnich.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, February 4,2022 at St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Church, 2300 W Huntington Dr. Wilmington, where visitation will begin at 10:30 AM. Burial will immediately follow at All Saints Cemetery. A reception will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Church.

Contribution in Joe’s memory may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Church.
