Obituary for Janet E. Snape

Janet E. Snape went to be with her Lord on August 27, 2020 at her assisted living apartment in Wilmington, Delaware. She would have turned 88 in October. She was born in Massachusetts, but came to the Bethesda-Chevy Chase, MD area with her family in 1935. Many special vacation memories were made throughout her life in upstate NY off Lake Ontario at “Good Nuff” the family cottage built by her grandfather.

Janet was the youngest of three children (Bill and MaryLou) born to Harold and Mary who all preceded her in death as well as brother-in-law Tom and sister-in-law Bonnie. However, she has a large extended family worldwide that will miss her very much! She is survived by three nieces (Kathy, Peggy, and Anne) and two nephews (Billy and Richard) with whom she was very close. She also leaves behind great nieces/nephews Erin, Megan, Logan, Phelan, LeeAnne, Charlie, Zoe, Paden, Maggie, Connor, and Shannon, 3 great-greats—Patrick, Garrett, and Kate, and a sister-in-law, Medie.

Janet attended DePauw University (IN) and Western Maryland College (now McDaniel) before going to work many years for GEICO. She was a dedicated daughter who enjoyed traveling with her parents, and took care of them in their later years. She was a lifelong Star Trek fan, and loved collecting, customizing and wearing unique jewelry. She especially loved the artwork of her friend B. Warren Allin, and his paintings hung on every inch of her walls!

Janet’s final resting place is a historic cemetery in Shortsville, NY with her parents and many other ancestors. A small gathering will held there Columbus Day weekend with her extended family.

The immediate family wishes to extend grateful thanks to the essential workers who helped to care for Janet in her last three years, and especially during the most difficult period of the pandemic. We are also supported and honored by the love and prayers that were a constant presence from Janet’s home church family at CCUMC.

The family suggests that memorials to Janet be for the enhancement of her beloved “Good Nuff” which will be 100 years old in July 2022. Preparations are being made for a family reunion there at that time. Janet joined the family reunion in heaven the very same weekend that was planned for a 2020 reunion, but delayed due to the pandemic! Cards may be sent to Kathy Kelly and if received by October 7th will be shared at her internment.
