Obituary for Gerald Damon Boyce

We painfully announce the passing of Gerald Damon Boyce, aged 51, who passed away peacefully on March 9, 2024 in Newark, DE surrounded by immediate family and loved ones.

Gerald was a cook for 4 years at McGlynns in Dover, DE. He was a respected member of his profession and known for his “outside the box” recipes. He was born and raised in Wilmington, DE and graduated from Christiana High School in 1991 where he was a stellar football player all throughout high school.

Beyond his sports and culinary accomplishments, Gerald was known for his “long winded” conversations and thoughtful intentions which made him a cherished and loyal family member and friend to many.

In his free time, Gerald was a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan, which brought him joy and relaxation (except when they were losing).

Gerald was dedicated to being a devoted and loving father to his daughter, Damonet’ Alexis Boyce.

Gerald leaves to cherish his memory, parents, Winder Elaine and James Mitchell (both preceded him in death); maternal grandparents, Cleveland Jerry Boyce Sr.(preceded him in death) and Mary Boyce; paternal grandparents, Franklin “Plug” Henry and Elizabeth “Tiny” Henry (both preceded him in death); brothers, Willie McDaniel (preceded him in death), Cornelius Boyce and his fiancé Irene and their children, Kyhier, Zyion, Cornelius Jr. and India; James Boyce and his children Gaige and Issa, Jimille and his daughter Mylah; sisters, Jimia “Tonya” Redden and her children, Dominique, Coreenah, Khitor and Khidhr, Kareemah Boyce-Hill and her husband Ernest Hill and their children Shakeim, Davine, Quamir, Dasini, Armanee & Jasir Brown (preceded him in death), Shafee Mitchell and her daughter Hunter, and a host of aunt, uncles, cousins and close personal friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 East Justis Street Newport (Wilmington), DE 19804, where visitation will begin at 12:30 PM. In honor of Geralds love for the Cowboys and football in general please feel free to wear your favorite NFL team jersey (preferably the Dallas Cowboys!).

In lieu of flowers, Damonet’ and Sue, her Mom, ask you to reach out to someone you love and haven’t seen in a while and tell them you love and miss them, life is too short and tomorrow is not promised to anyone♥️

Gerald Damon Boyce, will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on through his family, friends, and colleagues.
