Obituary for Frederick W. Schweiger

Fred W. Schweiger, 88, of Silview, DE departed this life surrounded by family and friends on Friday, May 19, 2023.

He made many friends growing up in the Browntown neighborhood of Wilmington with his parents and four siblings. He graduated from Brown Vocational Technical High School in 1952, representing the school on the football, track, and golf teams and winning competitions in marksmanship, decathlon, and relay races.

His career was varied, starting in his early years as a caddy at the Wilmington Country Club. He went on to work at the Container Corporation of America paper mill in Wilmington, then joined the Hercules Research Center, and finally he drove school buses for Red Clay Consolidated School District.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting, swimming, playing golf with his best friend Marty O’Connor, and mechanic work with his friend Clarence “Reedy” Reed. His family will fondly remember many DIY home improvement projects, meals featuring his famous German Pancakes, and his willingness to always crack a joke or tell one of his many great stories.

With his loving wife, Pamela G. Schweiger, Fred created a welcoming home for generations of family, friends, and pets. Over the 66 years they lived together, they hosted countless birthday parties, summer barbeques on the patio, and Christmas Eve gatherings.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife Pam, his daughter Terry, and his grandson. He is survived by his daughter Robin, his son Fred M. and daughter-in-law Kim, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, his dear friends Marian, Juan and Claudia, John, Joe, many nieces, nephews, and other adoring neighbors.
