Obituary for Freddie Torres

Freddie Torres, age 66, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on April 2, 2019, after a brave battle with cancer.


Freddie was born on May 15, 1952 in Coamo, Puerto Rico. Freddie attended Wilmington High School. He was an employee of the City of Wilmington where he worked in the Sanitation Department for many years.


Freddie was known for his crazy sense of humor, his youthful spirit and his love for family. He loved to have visitors and would cook up his delicious rice and other Puerto Rican delicacies. He enjoyed all kinds of music and his dancing skills were unique, only moves he could master. His love for his Puerto Rican heritage was more than obvious. He didn’t shy away from showing off the Puerto Rico flag on anything he owned.


He loved the outdoors and was always proud of his beautiful vegetable garden.


Preceded in death by his father Candido Torres; Freddie is survived by his wife of over 27 years, Diana Torres; Children, Kevin, Donald, Freddie and Jamayra; his mother Maria; siblings, Carmen, Olga, Roberto, Madeline, Candido, Maribel, and David; 21 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.


Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing in honor of Freddie at Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home 212 East Justis Street, Newport (Wilmington) 19804 April 6, 2019 from 10:30 am - 12 noon. Services will begin promptly at 12 noon. Burial will be private.
