Obituary for David John Reilly
David John Reilly passed away in Newark, DE on December 10, 2023. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Robert and Dorothy (Siebold) Reilly. David was a lifelong resident of Wilmington, DE. He attended Alexis I. duPont High School in Greenville, DE and the University of Delaware in Newark, graduating with a bachelor's degree in foreign language, with an emphasis on French and Spanish.
David worked in banking and finance for most of his career. He later transitioned to substitute teaching in public and private schools in the Wilmington area. David was a Civil War buff, reading many historic books on the subject. He loved watching sports, including college and professional football and basketball. David often read biographies of sports figures and events, and he loved sharing the books he read with family members.
As an avid tennis player for many years, David was a member of a local tennis club. He also liked to play chess. David loved visiting his siblings and their families during holidays and other special occasions. He enjoyed several family reunions at the Jersey Shore, playing miniature golf in Stone Harbor and strolling the boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ.
David is survived by his siblings: Paul Reilly of Carmel, CA; Susan Reilly Day of Reno, NV; and Donna Reilly Ellis of Tolland, CT; his nieces and nephews Jennifer, Christopher, Jonathan (and his wife Alyssa), and Steven (and his wife Annie); great-nieces and great-nephews Samantha, Isaac, Elijah, Reilly, Tyler, and Adalyn; and several cousins and their families.
There will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice.
