Obituary for Cecilia Ann Gilmore

Cecilia Ann (Kelly) Gilmore, age 96, of Newark, went to be with the Lord and her husband on Saturday, October 14, 2023 while her daughter Sharon played her some of her favorite music.

Ceil was born in Philadelphia to Thomas and Hannah Kelly. She graduated from Hallahan High School in 1945 and Miseracordia Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. As an RN, Ceil worked in a doctor’s office until she resigned in 1950 when she married and became a full time homemaker.

Ceil volunteered as a nurse at the woman’s prison in Wilmington in the early 1970’s as well as a one on one visitor to several terminally ill parishioners of St. John-Holy Angel’s. She was one of the first female Eucharistic Ministers at St. John-Holy Angels and a CCD teacher. She and her husband were coordinators for the RCIA process in her parish for 13 years. Ceil later also attended Resurrection Catholic Church.

Ceil was a member of the Two by Four Square Dance Club and several Round Dance Clubs and was a part of a square dance demonstration on the Mike Douglass TV Show in 1974. She enjoyed dining out, going to the beach, traveling, and attending the Academy of Life Long Learning, where she started in 1982. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ceil will be remembered as a woman who was confident in her faith and her gentle nature and sense of humor will be missed by all.

Ceil was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jim in 2008 and her grandson, Bryan Gilmore in 2016.

Ceil is survived by her four children, Denise Gilmore (Jim Nuytens), Steve Gilmore, Sharon Jengehino (Alan) and Jim Gilmore (Barb); grandchildren, Jennifer Connolly (Gavin), Kelly Urban (Rob), Allison Jengehino (Donnie), Meghan Willis (Neil Stevens), Eryn Gruber, Caitie Geddis (Joe), Brennen Gilmore and Shay Gayle; great grandchildren, Hannah Connolly, Abigail Connolly, Elaina Connolly, Ryan Urban, Miriam Urban, Avery Stevens, Ella Stevens, Angelica Boner and Carter Geddis; sisters-in-law, Eileen Zimmerman and Patricia Gilmore and daughter-in-law, Darlene Gilmore (Keith).

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, October 27 at St. John-Holy Angels Catholic Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE 19711 where visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ceil's memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
