Obituary for Carlos "Nono" Santiago

Carlos "Nono" Santiago, age 73, of Wilmington, DE went to be with the Lord peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2023.

Nono as he was well known was a jack of all trades, he worked as a concrete finisher but his passion was training horses and coaching baseball/softball. He started his coaching career with La Liga Juvenile Roberto Clemente (Now known as Roberto Clemente Baseball League) and also worked as an umpire with the DSUA (Delaware Softball Umpire Association). He played softball for the Blues Brothers New Castle county team and traveled to different states to compete in softball tournaments. Nono was an incredible man, both loving and strong to his family and a bright light to friends and strangers. He was a person of many laughs, smiles, GREAT conversations and let’s not forget intense football games as he was a die hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. If you needed something he’d go out his way to help no matter how long it took or where he needed to be. To the City of Wilmington community Nono was considered a pilar and will leave a legacy for generations to come.

Nono’s survivors include his wife of 49 years, Milagro Santiago; his children, Carmen Cita (Luis), Carmen Minerva (Victor), David Santiago (Rose), Melissa Santiago, Alexandra Johnson (Charlie), Edgar DeJesus & Manolo DeJesus (Christina). He leaves behind his Mother Evangelista Santiago and many siblings along with a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren including his pride and joy, Jeules.

He preceded in death by his father Adrian Santiago, his sister Ada E. Santiago and his brothers Mickey, Reynaldo (Rey), Angel (Cuco) and Edwin Santiago.

Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, July 18 at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis St. Newport, DE 19804 where visitation will begin at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery.
