He was born in Las Vueltas Coatepec de Harinas Estado de Mexico, the son of Fermin Ortiz Cruz and Celedonia Ortiz Cruz. Arturo spent his career working in landscaping and farming. He met his beloved wife Margie Ortiz-Cruz in 2003 and recently celebrated 20 years of marriage. Although Arturo spent most of his time working hard to care for his family, he enjoyed spending his free time with his granddaughter Calianna and wife at the rodeo and farmer’s markets and shopping for his favorite foods.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are his sisters Rosa Ortiz-Cruz, Esperanza Ortiz-Cruz, and Augustina Ortiz-Cruz, brothers Antonio Ortiz-Cruz and Fermin Ortiz-Cruz Jr., his daughter Mercedes Ortiz, son Matthew Ortiz, stepdaughters Carmen Johnson, Aida Reyes, and Juana Reyes, stepson Juan Reyes, son in law Jerry Johnson, nephew Damian Cruz-Ortiz, neice Conchita Ortiz and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Arturo’s sister Esperanza would like to remember her brother with the following words of endearment:

A service of remembrance will be held at 12 pm on Saturday September 30 at Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 East Justis St. Newport, DE where visitation will begin at 11 am.

Psalm 23 (NIV)
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
