Alice M. Dickinson, age 64, of Newark, Delaware fell asleep in Christ on April 15, 2019.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Baynard, father Orville Baynard, step-father Clarence Woodland, and brother, Larry Baynard. Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Lawrence Dickinson; her daughters, Christina Bentzen & Angela Mitchell (Jonathan); her son,
Michael Dickinson; and her grandchildren, Matthew Bentzen, Jonathan Mitchell Jr., Jacob
Mitchell, and Melanie Mitchell.

Alice was a loving mother, devoted mother, and steadfast follower of Christ. She was born in Wilmington, Delaware on August 29, 1954 and grew up in Belvedere, Delaware. Alice was among the first class of students integrated in the state. As a Delaware native, she could testify to various other important moments in the region’s history, and she was always as ready to share her stories as she was to listen to others. She had seen so much in her life, and was blessed to experience so many things. She grew up attending the Church if Christ in Belvedere, and was a member of the Churches of Christ in Kelton, PA and Darby, PA. during her adulthood.

Alice was a 1971 graduate of McKean High School. She then received a nursing degree from Delaware Technical Institute became an registered nurse at Christiana Hospital where she was employed for more than two decades. Her love for learning led her to further her education at Wilmington University, and she graduated with her bachelor’s degree in 2001. She accomplished this feat while working full time and raising three children. She also started her own business selling handcrafted designs.

The latter portion of her nursing career, she worked on the post-partum floor of the hospital. She enjoyed caring for new mothers and the babies that they brought into the world. Her passion for her profession reflected her kind, nurturing heart. Her good works ranged from selflessly caring for others to persevering through the hardest of times, all while working to serve her Creator.

In her free time, Alice enjoyed crafting, cooking, drawing, reading, spending time
with her family, singing hymns, reading her Bible, and worshiping God. Alice was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her grandchildren and found immense joy in caring for them and spending time with them. Whether it was giving a toy, a treat, or a hug, or hosting impromptu slumber parties, she worked tireless to put a smile on her grandchildren’s faces.

Her actions were a testimony of longsuffering and illustrated human kindness. Alice clearly exemplified that love is more than mere words, love is an action. She inspired, fostered, and most importantly she loved. Her desire to instill a love and reverence for God will be the most impactful elements of her enduring legacy, and bring peace to her loved ones—as she is simply asleep in Christ, and her spirit has gone back to our Father. She will be sincerely missed and will always be deeply loved.
